But out across Britain's farms, villages, workshops and rural businesses, something else is already happening. Farming families, land-based trades and countryside innovators are blending hands-on know-how with agritech, AI and renewable energy to build communities that can stand on their own two feet.
We reckon farming is our oldest technology — and still one of our most important frontiers. Real progress doesn't come from boardrooms or slick strategy decks. It comes from barns, sheds, and people who understand soil, seasons and graft. Whether that's AI-guided machinery, solar-powered workshops, open-source tools, or skills handed down through generations, rural Britain is proving that tradition and innovation aren't at odds. Put them side by side and they make each other stronger.
